What is a radio?

A radio is a method or a device of transmitting electrical energy from one place to another without using any kind of direct, wired connection. That’s why it’s often called wireless. The equipment that sends out a radio wave is known as a transmitter, while a receiver receives the wave.

Types of Radio

  • AM Radio: AM stands for Amplitude Modulation. In AM, a radio wave known as the “carrier” or “carrier wave” is modulated in amplitude by the signal that is to be transmitted. The frequency and phase remain the same. AM radio having frequency that ranges from 535 to 1705 KHz (OR) Up to 1200 bits per second.
  • FM Radio: FM stands for Frequency Modulation. In FM, a radio wave known as the “carrier” or “carrier wave” is modulated in frequency by the signal that is to be transmitted. The amplitude and phase remain the same. FM radio has a frequency that ranges in a higher spectrum from 88 to 108 MHz. (OR) 1200 to 2400 bits per second.
