Apple iPhone 8 Review
The apple iPhone 8 is somehow a disappointment compared to the specifications of iPhone 7 plus. It was expected that iPhone 8 will have better features that iPhone 7 plus but expectations didn’t come to pass.
The iPhone 7 plus has dual cameras at its rear but iPhone 8 just has a single camera. The only improvement here is on the front and back glass body and an aluminum frame. But for other things, all are disappointment. Even the iPhone 7 plus battery has higher capacity than the battery of iPhone 8.
Notwithstanding the disappointments, iPhone 8 has a glass at its front and rear section, probably the first iPhone with such physical body features. The frame is an aluminum 7000 frame. And it is good to note that apples didn’t fail to make iPhone 8 a waterproof device. This phone has different color options Space Gray, Gold and silver colors.
The display on the device is measured at 4.7 inches which is less than the 5.5 inches display on the iPhone 7 Plus. But it has a higher operating system than other iPhones before it and it is the Apple iOS 11 operating system. The camera is a single 12-megapixel rear camera which should have been higher than the dual 12 megapixels on iPhone 7 plus.
The internal memory versions of the iPhone 8 are just 64 GB and 256 GB. These memory versions are definitely going to be expensive and most people won’t be able to afford it. People will preferentially go for iPhone 7 Plus than the iPhone 8. The Stereo speakers are there with pressure-sensitive Home key that has fingerprint scanner.
As sad as it maybe, the iPhone 8 has a poor screen-to-body ratio at 65.4% while that of iPhone 7 is at 67%. There is no audio jack on the device but Bluetooth earphones are made available. There will never be an SD card slot on iPhones and this iPhone 8 just has two memory versions of 64 GB and 256 GB. The price of iPhone 8 should not have been higher than that of iPhone 7 Plus because the iPhone 7 Plus has superior features than the iPhone 8.
If you unbox the device, make sure that the pack is freshly covered with a seal indicating that it has never been opened before you are about to open it. You will see a white three-pinned charger, you will also see a lightning cable that is also white.
You are definitely going to find a pair of earpods that are white. A provision for lack of an earphone jack was made and it is an analog jack adapter which you will plug to the charging port and plug the earphone into the other end of the chord that has an earphone jack. You will also find manual books and a sim card remover pin.
The iPhone 8 has a physical dimension of 138.4 millimeters long, 67.3 millimeters wide and 7.3 millimeter thick. These ranges of dimension are less than that of iPhone 7 plus except for the thickness that is at 7.3 millimeter.
These dimensions are less because the screen on iPhone 8 measures for 4.7 inches while that of iPhone 7 Plus measures at 5.5 inches. The iPhone 8 weighs 148 grams making it lighter than the 188 grams’ device that the iPhone 7 plus is. As earlier mentioned, the front is made of glass as so is the back made of glass.
The screen measured 4.7 inches. The device lacks an audio jack but a wireless paired earPods are made available for that inconvenience. The device is a waterproof for itself. And guessing rightly, the water immunity made apple not to include and earphone jack to the device. But before you charge your iPhone 8 or any other waterproof device, make sure it is very dry so as to avoid destruction of the phone by short-circuit.
With the earpiece at the top front-side of the phone, it also has a home key placed at the front of the phone display which is at the center. The front side also sees a 7 MP camera. The home key is not just a key but it also has a Touch fingerprint scanner on it. The left side of the phone has the silencer key and two volume keys while the right side has the SIM slot for a Nano SIM and also a power/lock button.
At the bottom of the phone are paired eight rounded openings with a USB port of 2.0 placed in between them. These eight openings are microphone and speaker respectively. At the back you will see a 12-megapixel camera with a quad-LED dual tone flash beside it. This device has variant colors of Silver, Space Gray, Gold and Red.
The glass body isn’t the best for thermal conduction as far as the heating and throttling are concerned. That’s the reason for this particular spot around the lock key may even become inconveniently hot.
The device has a 4.7 inches display which is inferior than the 5.5 inches’ display on the iPhone 7 Plus. the display comes with a 1334p resolution that has a pixel density of 326ppi. The display type is a LED-backlit IPS LCD screen that has 3D touch enabled on it. This 3D touch technology started from iPhone 6s.
It also has a wide color gamut display. The display also has a true tone display which when turned on corrects the white balance of the screen and make objects seen on the screen more comfortable to the eyes.
The device has a brightness of 530 nits which comes with a wider color gamut. The brightness of the display is excellent with a contrast ratio of 1400:1. The color calibration is also awesome as it produces excellent colors that we see around the environment.
Some Apple devices do come with the Night Shift mode which sets the colors in those apple devices so that the eyes aren’t exposed to the bright blue light after sun’s light out.
Performance and Memory
The operating system that runs this device is iOS 11. The iPhone 8 is the first apple device to have that operating system and this operating system is upgradable to iOS 12.1. The iPhone 8 is equipped with a new generation A11 Bionic chip making it the first iPhone to come with such chip. It is also having a hexa-core CPU that runs at 2.1 GHz.
These 2.1 GHz bionic A11 chips are more powerful than the 2.3 GHz chips in A10 of iPhone 7 Plus. The iPhone 8 has a different GPU. This GPU is a three-core that is 40% more powerful than Adreno 540 GPU by Qualcomm. It is also 40% powerful and faster than Apple A10’s PowerVR 7XT Series. This GPU is iPhone 8 does not use much power just like the GPU in iPhone 7 plus.
The A11 Bionic comes a dual-core Neural Engine, which is a neural processor. The neural processor helps in hardware acceleration for AI machine learning. The AI Machine learning allows the system to improve functioning in complex tasks over time without specific additional programming.
This device comes with a 2 GB RAM unlike the iPhone 7 plus that comes with 3 GB RAM. The device has two versions of internal memory including 64 and 256 GB internal memory. As sad as it has always been, iPhone devices do not come with a slot for an SD card thereby making files and data to be stored on the phone memory.
The Apple iPhone 8 comes with a rear camera that is 12 megapixels. This camera is so upgrades that it makes the iPhone 8 is capable of shooting real-time image. It also has a motion analysis – body and face detection. The camera can capture video capture 4K at 60fps and 1080p at 240fps modes.
The iPhone 8 camera also saves picture and videos with a new file format than JPG. The pictures taken are saved in the HEIF file format and videos in HEVC (H.265) video format. These multimedia formats use less storage space than the JPG formats. The iPhone 8 has panorama. And it can take up to 180-degree panoramic shots.
The selfie camera is 7MP camera in iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. It uses Retina flash depending on the color of the available light to provide more pleasing skin tones. The front camera has a face detection technology, a HDR and also a panorama. HDR makes images darker when turned on. The front camera can record selfie videos at 1080p resolution.
The iPhone 8 has a WLAN, a 5.0 version of Bluetooth, an A-GPS and also an NFC. It has no radio. The USB port is version 2.0 with proprietary reversible connector. The device comes with a fingerprint sensor mounted at the front of the phone.

The connectivity speed for HSPA is 42.2 Mbps download and 5.76 Mbps upload, LTE-A (3CA) Cat12 is 600 Mbps download and 150 Mbps upload while EV-DO Rev.A is 3.1 Mbps.
Software and Applications

Apple preinstalled cool softwares like Siri natural language commands and dictation, iCloud cloud service, MP3/WAV/AAX+/AIFF/Apple Lossless player, MP4/H.264 player, Audio/video/photo editor and a Document editor.
The iPhone 8 has its Phone applications opened to third-party messengers such as Skype, Viber, and WhatsApp and these third-party applications can share the same in-call screen as phone calls.
